MyFace Foundation Review

Hi everyone :D

I've been meaning to do a review on the MyFace Foundation for a while now, and I'm finally getting around to doing it, yay!

I brought the foundation last Christmas for about £12.99 and I've been using it pretty frequently since then.

Firstly, the packaging is quiet plastic-ey and I don't think the price tag reflects on it very well. When paying £10+ on a foundation I expect to get a product in somewhat more luxurious packaging like Revlon colorstay or Rimmel Wake Me Up. However, this being said I do actually love how streamline and compact it is- great for travelling. I recently had a 35 hour trip, yes 35 hours! (including a 12 hour layover) and had the foundation packed in my suitcase with a bit of cling film wrapped around it and it didn't spill or explode so the packaging gets a big thumbs up from me. :)

Another positive about this product is the staying power of this foundation. I'll usually put it on at about 9am and by the time I take it off at about 9.30-10pm most of it will still be there.

Sounds good so far, right? Well lets move onto the negatives...

(Taken with Flash)

Before I brought this foundation I read and watched about 90% of the reviews that were out there at the time, most people kept saying that the shade range was really good and since I have quiet unusually colouring and find it hard to find a foundation that matches my skin tone well, I was really excited when I heard about MyFace.

So, there are 3 categories - light, medium and medium dark and within these categories there are 3 sub-categories 1,2 and 3.- this is meant to make it really easy to find your perfect shade. I must say this did make it easier to narrow down what shade I was. Good so far...

So early in the morning, I went of to boots, after examining all the shades i ended up swatching both the medium 03 and the dark/medium 01 on my face and then went for a walk outside to see what it looked like in natural lighting. The medium 03 looked slightly light and I don't think I would have been able to make it work for me whereas as the dark/medium 01 looked as though it had blended into my skin really well so that's the one I purchased.

After wearing it a couple of times, I came to realise that this particular shade is extremely yellow from the moment I put it on.  I can't imagine there being a lot of people out there that would be able to pull of this particular colour because it's just so yellow (maybe if they had a lot of redness, but even then I think its a bit OTT)

The "professionals" at MyFace state that the shades are professionally mixed and matched by experts according to skin tone. This may be true for the lighter variations of this foundation since from what I've heard from girls with paler/lighter skin tones seem to be reasonably happy with this product, however I don't think that the medium/darker shades are very skin-tone like at all. Total Disappointment.

Secondly I hate the formulation. On colder days the product manages to highlight dry patches I didn't even know I had yet on warmer days makes me look extremely shiny down my nose, forehead, cheeks and chin. I find myself needing to blot at least every 2-3 hours- it would be an understatement to say that its very inconvenient.

My last point has absolutely nothing to do with the actually foundation, but with the strange statements on the tube…
"delivers a modern retouched finish" and "Instant image upgrade"
My first thought- ?!?! :S
What does that mean? And what does it have to do with foundation??

Over I'm really not happy with this foundation. From the experience I've had with it, I would never repurchase it or recommend it to anyone. Hope you found this helpful :)

The foundation provides a light coverage but can be built up to achieve a medium coverage.
You also get 35ml of product- 5ml more than the standard foundation. (great if you love it, not so great if your trying to use it all up because you'd hate to waste £13)

  1. thanks for the review doll! i know now to stay away from this foundation, seems quite expensive and I agree with what you said about the packaging, £12.99's quite expensive for a drugstore foundation so they should have given in more of a wow factor! lovely review and blog though :) now following you xxx
